Raised at Qordashi from age six, Astra assimilated completely into monastic life. From early childhood she showed a strong pull toward the meditation caves at the top of Ice Mountain, earning her the affectionate nickname “Little Monk”, interpreted by the community as precocious spiritual devotion. The truth was more complex: the communal barracks were overwhelming for her in ways she could not articulate, and the caves provided instinctive relief.

Qordashi’s strict institutional mandate — “There is no death in Qordashi”, enforced by keeping all dying and slaughter outside the walls — meant that Astra grew up largely insulated from the full weight of her necromantic abilities. It was not until age ten, on her first trip outside the walls with Doyen Superior Naboch, that she encountered deathbeds for the first time. The experience was shattering. Naboch, who witnessed it, almost certainly understood what it meant — and from that point forward worked quietly but systematically to ensure Astra rarely left Qordashi, a pattern the community interpreted as controlling favoritism rather than protection.
