The Wadi
Description
A scientific project funded by Mizmo to create and sustain a fully self-sufficient biosphere on the Moon. Intended as an experiment and symbol of humanity’s ability to cultivate life on barren worlds. The Wadi is the idealized hope for humanity’s relationship with outer space, in stark contrast to the crumbling, utilitarian nature of the Station. A set of seven domes surrounded by outbuildings and processing units housing hundreds of people. It looks like a cluster of glass and metal flowers rising from the monotone Lunar desert. The interiors are lush, verdant mini-forests. Pioneering agricultural techniques have produced a mix of flowers, grass, shrubs, and even a few small trees. Several domes are filled with species chosen for their ruggedness, like mosses, wild grains, insects, or lab-animal species (e.g., rabbits or small birds). It has clean, bright living quarters for the Ranchers, distinct from the station: large windows filter natural sunlight, and everything feels organic or purpose-built rather than patched together.
